My Poetry
'THE FOOL IN THE POOL'
I only came here to have a quick dip
And never intended my lunchtime-strip
I've been in this pool since almost noon
Now my fingers and toes resemble a prune
I
shouldn't have tried outdiving those hunks
My best swallow dive has cost me my trunks
I'd like to think they've sunk to the bottom
And hope to God those guys haven't got 'em!
They're
sort of stripey, blue and black
Oh you'll know the ones - the elastic is slack
I thought when I bought them they seemed a bit loose
But the assistant came up with a feeble excuse
"They'll
shrink in the water!" she said with a grin
Now a man of my age shouldn't be taken in
Not wanting her thinking that I was pathetic
I picked up the pack, acting tough and athletic
Now stuck
in this pool in my birthday-suit
Suddenly that girl doesn't seem half so cute
Normally speaking I wouldn't condemn her
But she is the cause of my present dilemma
It'll soon
be closing time at this pool
I'm the only one left and feeling a fool
I've been seeking cover but all I could find
Was a pink rubber duck some kid left behind
The
attendant is restless I hear him shout
"Come on now sir, it's time to come out!"
But I'm staying put, despite his harassment
Till I find those trunks and lose my embarrassment
